Speaker Trainings

SpeakOUT trains speakers to effectively use our proven format of telling stories and answering questions to break down stereotypes and misconceptions about the LGBTQ+ community. Our speaker trainings offer youth and adults an intensive preparation for conducting SpeakOUT engagements. SpeakOUT educates our own volunteer speakers at our trainings and also invites other organizations to send their members to be trained. In the past, SpeakOUT has trained members of PFLAG, the Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth (BAGLY), Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC), and many other area organizations.

In our dynamic, interactive, and fun trainings, novice and veteran speakers will learn and practice valuable skills, including:

  • Setting the right tone

  • Shaping and telling your story

  • Handling questions effectively

  • Dealing with difficult people

  • Overcoming fear

  • Working with your co-speaker

SpeakOUT also offers trainings to organizations and can tailor workshops or trainings to address each organization’s particular needs and subject matter. All speakers are guided by a Code of Conduct while interacting with the community as a SpeakOUT volunteer.
